Standard Written English (Part Two) and the New American Bible

Thursday Movie Night continues tonight with a screening--courtesy of Lj disorganization and her disorganized Netflix account--of The Happiness of the Katakuris (Miike, 2001), the story of a family who have guests over for dinner one night, and everyone has a good time, and that is why they are so happy. Have not seen it, so I am just guessing. In related news, SWE is really constrictive around the balls; how people stick with it, day after day after day, is a great mystery. ANYHOW, all of this action takes place at my apartment, beginning at 8:30 p.m. Last week, four people showed up for it, besides me and my roommate Gordon. That was a happy number. If 10 people besides me and Gordon show up, that will probably be a sad number. Our apartment is humble in size. (THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID, ha ha ha!) Unless 1 of those 10 people brings me mushrooms, in which case that will be a happy number. Anyhow, saddest of all would be if NO ONE besides me and Gordon showed up--because that would not be Thursday Movie Night. That would be Me And Gordon, Watching A Movie. However, do not worry, for as long as there are even two righteous men in Sodom, The Lord will spare it the fire, or something^[1] like that.

Dear Diary,

I have been eating one gelcap of turmeric per day, to fight carpal tunnel syndrome. My arms, wrists, and shoulders have ACTUALLY felt better. Yesterday, I forgot to take it. Today, my right shoulder feels like cardboard that has gotten wet, and then been left out to dry, and then gotten wet again, and then gotten dry again, and now is being used as th floor of a treehouse built for a family of monkeys, who are all jumping up and down on it. It is about to give. All the monkeys will die. Do you think this is all psychosomatic, and the turmeric is just a placebo?

²⁶ The LORD replied, "If I find fifty innocent people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake."
²⁷ Abraham spoke up again: "See how I am presuming to speak to my Lord, though I am but dust and ashes!
²⁸ What if there are five less than fifty innocent people? Will you destroy the whole city because of those five?" "I will not destroy it," he answered, "if I find forty-five there."
²⁹ But Abraham persisted, saying, "What if only forty are found there?" He replied, "I will forebear doing it for the sake of the forty."
³⁰ Then he said, "Let not my Lord grow impatient if I go on. What if only thirty are found there?" He replied, "I will forebear doing it if I can find but thirty there."
³¹ Still he went on, "Since I have thus dared to speak to my Lord, what if there are no more than twenty?" "I will not destroy it," he answered, "for the sake of the twenty."
³² But he still persisted: "Please, let not my Lord grow angry if I speak up this last time. What if there are at least ten there?" "For the sake of those ten," he replied, "I will not destroy it."
³³ The LORD departed as soon as he had finished speaking with Abraham, and Abraham returned home.
